Criterion Health announces the appointment of Dr. Peter Nathan as Medical Director

Criterion Health Pty Ltd today announces the appointment of Dr Peter Nathan as Medical Director of the Company with immediate effect. Dr Nathan is an experienced, energetic and passionate GP with special interests in Sports Medicine, Day Surgery and Clinical Governance. Dr Nathan has been a board member of Sports Medicine Australia for several years and is currently the President of the WA branch. He also acts as the Match Day Doctor for Super 14 Rugby in WA.
Dr Nathan will continue his existing roles as general practitioner in Winthrop and as an Assistant Surgeon (Orthopaedics) at St John of God Hospital and Surgicentre in Murdoch.
At Criterion, Dr Nathan’s primary responsibilities will include overseeing the Clinical Governance and Medical Advisory Committees as well as general practitioner recruitment and relations. He will also be involved in setting Criterion’s primary care strategy.
Managing Director Darren Webb commented on the appointment: “Peter brings to the Company a wealth of general practice expertise and management skill that will greatly strengthen Criterion’s capacity to execute our overall primary care strategy and grow the company. Former Symbion Health colleagues Darren Webb and Andrew Othen have today announced the formation of their new Company “Criterion Health Pty Ltd”
Criterion Health Pty Ltd (Criterion) is a primary care management and consulting service company established to provide new and improved solutions for general practitioners in Australia. Criterion aims to provide a more balanced approach to primary care for practitioners, health providers, staff and patients and encourage an emphasis on community health and wellness as well as prevention and treatment of illness.
Criterion will work in partnership with general practitioners, providing administrative and facilities management services and allowing GPs to practice high quality medicine in a collaborative environment which prioritises quality medical services and patient care.
Founders Darren Webb and Andrew Othen have extensive experience in Australia’s general practice and health industry.
Darren Webb has spent over 10 years in various senior roles at Mayne Health and Symbion Health in the Medical Centres division, including directing the Western Australia and Victoria businesses. Most recently, he was General Manager of the Medical Centre division until the Primary Healthcare takeover in 2008. “I like to think that I have seen the best and worst of general practice management in the past few years – Criterion will very definitely be modelled on the best.”
Andrew Othen has worked in senior financial positions in healthcare industry over a 20 year career in the USA, Europe and Australia. From 2002, Andrew was the Senior Financial Manager for Medical Centres before running Symbion’s Diagnostic Imaging business in Victoria. “I am extremely proud to be starting Criterion Health with Darren. We will utilise our collective understanding and experiences in this industry to provide a superior alternative to GPs, staff and patients”.
